The component composition of plasma jets generated by a dielectric barrier discharge in helium and air at atmospheric pressure was studied by emission and absorption spectroscopy. The concentration of the main bactericidal component of the air plasma jet (ozone) was determined using both IR and UV absorption spectroscopy to increase the reliability of the measurements. A study of the effects of the plasma jets on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria established that the air jet had a better inactivating effect than the helium jet.en
