Abstract:
Stark shifts of 29 doubly ionized argon (Ar III) spectral lines (28 experimental values reported for the first time) belonging to 16 multiplets (13 reported for the first time) in the 10 transition arrays (seven reported for the first time) have been measured in a mixture of Ar (72%) and He (28%) plasma created in the linear, low-pressure, pulsed arc discharge in the electron temperature interval (26 000-30 000 K) and electron density interval (0.16 - 1.68) × 1023 m- 3. Additionally, under the same plasma conditions, the Stark widths of 12 doubly ionized argon (Ar III) spectral lines have been measured in four transition arrays. For the novel, here presented, Stark shift results no theoretical values are found in literature, whereas the obtained Stark widths have been compared to the existing experimental and theoretical data. This research is the first to present, measured (347.1295, 347.2567, 335.2118 and 302.7086 nm) Ar III spectral lines Stark widths. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
