Abstract:
A computer program is made for solving ship motion equations (combined heave and pitch) and consecutive numerical integration of wave loads up to the values of vertical shear force and bending moment. Transfer functions are defined allowing evaluation of RMS values of their amplitudes for different wave spectra. Considerable data base is formed by means of systematic analyses of series of 14 container vessels with wide range of principal dimensions, in various sea states and for different speeds. Classification Societies empirical formulas for wave induced shear force and bending moment were also applied in all above cases. Results are compared, conclusions derived and some suggestions made. © 2007: The Royal Institution of Naval Architects.
